I’ve very fond memories of Tony, going back 50 years. He was a wonderful neighbour, particularly to my aged mother, Denkie, who felt safe knowing "Obe" was next door. His innate authority and composed presence gave her with a sense of security, and for this our family will always be grateful. Sometimes, during my own turbulent days I sought Tony’s counsel, and without fail he was welcoming and generous. I remember many hours spent until the small hours, putting the world to rights over a glass or two. An exceptionally well-read and intelligent man, his take on the world - whether current affairs, metaphysics, the environment, engineering, Richard Booth, Colin Wilson, Uri Gellar et al. or the state of Welsh rugby union - was always distinctive, informative, and commanded respect. He was a man of integrity, old school, a benevolent patriarch, a friend, and we’ve been privileged to know him. Our deepest condolences to you Anne, and to your family.
Love,
Joe
